Remedial Massage Therapy
Remedial Massage Therapy is assessment and treatment of the soft tissue to rehabilitate or improve physical function, relieve pain, prevent musculoskeletal dysfunction, enhance health and promote wellness.
What is Remedial Massage?
Remedial massage is used to treat soft tissues. It is a complementary treatment
method that helps relieve pain, immobility, tenseness and other issues of the muscles and other soft tissues. If you have sustained injuries that have affected your muscles, remedial massage is a great way to help with rehabilitation. Whether the damage is due to an internal issue or an external injury, remedial massage can help locate the focal point of the pain and work on treating it.
What does it involve?
Remedial Massage uses manual techniques such as stroking, friction, kneading, compression, and stretching.
Remedial massages can:
Increasing circulation allows tissues a greater oxygen supply, aiding pain relief.
Releasing muscles and fascia (the clingwrap-like connective tissue surrounding muscles and joints) with massage due to warmth, compression, and movement.
Decreasing pain by reducing pain signals being sent from tissues to the brain (peripheral nervous system), and decreased pain perception in the brain (central nervous system). With less pain input, the brain stops sending pain signals through the nervous system and inflammatory chemicals throughout the body.
