Diabetes Exercise Program at PROmotion

Research shows that Type 2 Diabetes can be prevented or delayed in up to 58% of cases by maintaining a healthy weight, being physically active and following a healthy eating plan.
Type 2 Diabetes results from a combination of genetic and environmental factors. The risk is greatly increased when associated with lifestyle factors such as high blood pressure, overweight or obesity, insufficient physical activity, poor diet and the classic ‘apple shape’ body where extra weight is carried around the waist. This is where our accredited Exercise Physiologists can assist!

The Exercise Physiologists at PROmotion run a comprehensive 4 week program centred
around education and exercise for patients with Type 2 Diabetes.

Initial Assessment

All patients must have a 45 minute initial assessment with one of our Exercise Physiologists which involves a full past and present medical history, a physical examination to assess cardiovascular, respiratory and musculoskeletal function plus a collaborative discussion with regards to the individuals needs and goals to ensure the tailored program that is developed is specific to that person.

Group Sessions

  • Our Diabetes program is run on a monthly basis with 2 sessions per week for 4 weeks. Currently sessions occur on a Tuesday and Thursday at 3pm.

  • 1 hour session: 40-45 minutes of Exercise and 15-20 minutes of Education.

  • Education topics include; Understanding Type 2 Diabetes, Exercise, Hypoglycaemic and Hyperglycaemic Episodes, Medications and Monitoring BSL, In the Kitchen, Short and Long Term Complications of Diabetes

Medicare Rebate may apply

The initial assessment and Diabetes program can be bulk billed through the Group Allied Health Services under Medicare for people with Type 2 Diabetes when referred by GP.
